What Fashion decade trend speaks to you?

Updated: Dec 7, 2019

"Fashion is a trend. Style lives within a person". - Oscar De La Renta

I've always admired that quote and how it's delivered. It's a sweet break down of how Fashion and Style are similar but different in many ways. A trend finds its way into Fashion creating a new lifestyle while people are deciding if they want to add their trend to their style of choice. Throughout our decade, Fashion had it's own character with whatever trend was popular from clothing, designer, art, and music. You got the early 60's classy & chic vibe from Jackie Kennedy and the hippies in the late 60s. What a game changer the 60's were! Our decade has made many movements that have impacted the Fashion Industry and I believe it has created a new vision for Fashion and empowerment for women.

Looking back at our decade, here is what has stayed in the Fashion Industry and here is what has stayed in this decade, for now at least.

1900

Where it all started? Conservative fashion that covered woman head to toe until they decided to take off a few layers for a more progressive look. Oooh La la!

1910:

Climb aboard the 1910s in class and simplicity ! Kate Winslet in Titantic had the right flare of the decade in her white and purple soft silhouette and hat.

1920:

Time to start playing all that jazz. What a party the 20's were! Flapper fashion and knee length dresses. I think we can all agree that the 20's should come back next year. It will be 2020. A little party don't kill nobody!

1930:

Ready for your close up? The 30's was the Hollywood glamour transformation thanks to Katherine Hepburn and Bette Davis.

1940:

Swing into the 40's feeling like a "nineteen forties teenager at a Frank Sinatra concert".

1950:

The marvelous 50's was flirty and fun. Also, can we please bring back these one piece swimsuits for summer fun?

1960:

How lovely to be a woman. Classy and refined 60's thanks to First Lady Jackie Kennedy. Then in the later 60's, we get our groove on with funky patterns and chunky accessories.

1970

Mamma Mia! Here we go again. In the 70's, you either were a disco loving queen or you joined the hippie tribe on the way to Woodstock.

1980:

It it wasn't worn in a John Hughes movie, than was it really a fashion trend? Molly Ringwald and Madonna were the female of fashion in the 80's. Totally different styles they rocked but hey, everyone has a different style.

1990:

"AS IF" 90's brought that prep plaid from Clueless to punk rock oversize clothing. These fashion trends have made its way to our regular streetwear. Who has more than one denim jacket in their closet? I think we all do!

That's a wrap of Fashion history my friends!

Now, what decade is your favorite?

P.S. Let's bring back the 20's for the new year! I'll pop the champagne.
