Trends and being trendy has always played a role in my personality! I also have loved exploring different decades of fashion trends. There are so many trends but I wanted to limit this post to 3 timeless trends that have impacted fashion and my style. I believe our fashion sense is always changing and so are these trends. Here are my favorites between 1990 - 2018...

1. 1993 : Slip Dresses with T-shirt
The early 90's was full of fun and funky style aesthetics. That was most of the earlier fashion except for Slip dresses which had a chic and elegant look. They were as simple as they could be. Actresses such as Kate Moss, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jennifer Anniston made the strip dress the fashion icon for the 90's. The dress was a tight fit at the top and at the waist. Slip dresses were found mostly on the red carpet. This type of dress was very chic and perfect for a night out, yet people wanted to wear them as a day look as well "Thanks to Calvin Klein". Slip dresses with T-shirts underneath became one of the definitions for slip dresses today. Women were able to slip into something casual. Now, this look has stayed in the book and this time era for fashion. It's chic and unique!
2. 2008 : Boyfriend Jeans This trend is one of my favorite trends to hit the streets! In 2008, Actress, Katie Holmes; was caught wearing baggy denim jeans out in public. People assumed the jeans belonged to her ex-husband Tom Cruise and that she took a pair for herself. Jeans that are slightly baggy, rolled at the cuff... will call them boyfriend jeans! These jeans would also be about 1 to 2 sizes larger than the person's waist. You could purchase boyfriend jeans at department stores such as American Eagle, Gap, and Banana Republic. Sadly in 2015, stores changed the boyfriend jean style to girlfriend jeans and made them a closer fit to the waist. Women were not happy with this sudden change but they fixed the problem, they would shop in the men's section so they could get their boyfriend jeans back! Again, loved this trend and loved that this look has not changed since 2008.
3. 2017 : Lacing Up
Last but not least, the lace up! Do you remember in history class or english when you would learn about the Renaissance? It was a time of rebirth and also a fashion era of lace, just like 2017 when it came to lacing up your wardrobe. Going into the future, lace up tops were the hottest trend for spring and summer of 2017. This look would resemble a lace up technique on the front of a top, dress, skirt, swimwear, or even pants. The amount of lace up shirts that forever 21 and H&M sold out of when this trend hit stores. I was able to grab 3 shirts and a pair of lace up leggings. I love seeing that a old victorian influence creates a whole new style that still has the flirty flare it gave during that time period. The lace up definitely was a fashion moment for 2017 but I'm sure it will work its way back to the industry in a few seasons or so. Thats the best thing about this trend. It's trendy and timeless!
Alright! I think I'm finished for now. I always love picking trends and talking about why I love them. Isn't it also crazy that we're already in 2019. Fashion has been changing since 1993 but most of the trends have not left the fashion world. Actresses are still wearing slip dresses on the red carpet, women are wearing boyfriend jeans, and most of swimwear has a lace up on the front or on the back. Again, trends are timeless! Now what was your favorite trend? Any decade that was your favorite for fashion? I would love to hear! - Amelia
